Six scenes from the same hour
AERÉ is a sleep and everyday-wellness home brand based in Hangzhou, China, designing twenty things for the hour before bed.
That hour is not one hour. It is six different problems wearing the same clock: a mind that will not stop, a 3am wake-up, a bed with one temperature, a body still holding a desk day, a shoulder under the head all night, and a morning that starts with a jolt. The shop is arranged by shelf because that is how a shop works. These pages are arranged by the hour, because that is how a night works.
The mind keeps going · 5 things
Can’t switch off
AERÉ makes five things for the hour when your mind will not switch off: a machine that plays over the room, a speaker under the pillow, a slow star field, an amber light, and three oils. None of them treats anything. Each one gives your attention a single place to rest instead of forty.
Waking at three · 6 things
Awake in the middle
AERÉ makes six things for the middle of the night — the part where you are awake and the room is not, and everything you would normally reach for has to be found, switched on or asked for. Nothing here needs a light to be found by.
The bed has one temperature · 4 things
Too hot, too cold
AERÉ makes four things for a bed that will not hold one temperature — a weighted blanket built to breathe, a throw that warms, a gel pillow that runs cool and a throw for the warm hours. None of them cools the room, and AERÉ does not claim one does.
Shoulders still up · 6 things
The body holds the day
AERÉ makes six things for a body that is still holding the day — heat for the eyes, kneading for the neck and shoulders, weight in layers, a pillow for a short pull and a quiet one for the scalp. All of it is for the hour before bed, not for the whole night.
Shoulder under the head · 5 things
Made for side sleepers
AERÉ makes five things for people who sleep on their side — a pillow with a place for the shoulder, a silk case, a speaker flat enough to lie on, an in-ear bud that stays low and a gel pillow that runs cool. Side sleeping is a position, so these are shaped around a position rather than around a category.
The first minute · 3 things
A morning that starts right
AERÉ makes three things for the hour you wake into — a sunrise that comes up slowly, an amber light and a machine that plays over the street. The point is not to wake you earlier. It is to make the waking the last thing that happens rather than the first.
