Scenario · 5 things

Can’t switch off

AERÉ makes five things for the hour when your mind will not switch off: a machine that plays over the room, a speaker under the pillow, a slow star field, an amber light, and three oils. None of them treats anything. Each one gives your attention a single place to rest instead of forty.

Where you are

You are in bed with the light off, and the day is still running — a conversation from the afternoon, a list for tomorrow, one thing you said at four o’clock that you would like to take back. The room is quiet. The noise is not in the room.

What you actually want

Not to fall asleep faster. To have something quieter than your own head to put your attention on, so the hour stops being a rehearsal of the day.

What changes in the room

One thing at a time, and only one. A machine on the nightstand that plays over the noise. A speaker flat under the pillow, with nothing in your ear. A star field that moves slowly and then dims itself to nothing. An amber light low enough to leave on. A diffuser with three oils and no lamp on it. AERÉ puts one thing in the room rather than five, because five is what your head already sounds like.
